The government of Maeen Abdul Malik seeks to settle the displaced people of Yemen in the South in coordination with the authorities of Aden

"The plan to settle the displaced aims to ease pressure on the Houthi movement, which is unable to fulfill its obligations to employees who fled to the south to obtain financial resources from the government and international donor organizations, but the Saudi-backed government of Rashad al-Alimi has made no secret of the use of the displaced in the political conflict."

The government of Maeen Abdul Malik announced the launch of a conference to settle displaced Yemenis in southern cities, in coordination with the local authority in the capital, Aden, and funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in the first steps to ease pressure on Iranian proxies in Sana'a, which stand unable to fulfill their obligations towards citizens who fled the Houthi siege towards the liberated southern cities.

The plan to settle the displaced is aimed at easing pressure on the Houthi movement, which is unable to meet its obligations to employees who fled to the south to obtain financial resources from the government and international donor organizations, but the Saudi-backed government of Rashad al-Elaimy has made no secret of the use of the displaced in the political conflict.

On April 7, 2022, Saudi Arabia, which leads a coalition to fight Iranian proxies, appointed Major General Rashad Al-Alimi as Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Command Council, succeeding the isolated Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and the stated goal of overthrowing Hadi is to enter into negotiations with the Houthis to reach a political settlement that leads to the return of displaced Yemenis to their homes in Sana'a and the rest of the areas under Houthi control, but this has not been achieved, so it seems clear that the plan to settle the displaced has its political dimensions, unlike that it relieves pressure At the same time, the Houthis may obstruct any southern step towards independence, especially since the number of displaced Yemenis according to official figures has become a pressure on the population of the south.

Sources close to the government of Maeen Abdul Malik told Alyoum8th newspaper that the UNHCR funded the conference to settle displaced Yemenis in the south, during an event that will be launched on Sunday,22 October, until 2November.

The sources confirmed that the conference, which is supervised by the Yemeni Brotherhood Najib al-Saadi, had coordinated with the deputy governor of Aden, "Badr Muaon", who began his readiness for the success of the conference.

Sources close to the STC said that none of the members of the STC Presidency were aware of the details of the resettlement conference.

The Houthis refuse to allow the Saudi-backed government to re-export oil, claiming that it wants 80% of the resources to pay the salaries of government employees, but the government, which has failed to address many crises, seeks to settle the displaced, especially in light of the acquisition of "Maeen Abdul Malik" on the resources of the Regional and International Relief Support Fund through an administration under his control, away from the powers of the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badib, who is affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council.

The so-called executive unit – a department affiliated with Maeen Abdul Malik – is expected to launch the conference on Sunday to discuss the plan to settle displaced people in the south, in the hall of the Coral Hotel in the southern capital Aden.

A source in the local authority in the capital Aden said that Badr Muaon, currently acting governor, issued directives to the directors of government directorates and institutions to deal with the letter of the Minister of Local Administration, which is mainly in response to the request of the director of the executive unit, Najib al-Saadi, who the sources say has nothing to do with the resettlement policy because he follows the Higher Relief Committee, but implements the directives of Maeen Abdul Malik.

According to official documents, the number of displaced people in the cities of the south is close to being twice the number of the original population, but the director of the Central Bureau of Statistics in the capital, Aden, Dr. Safaa Moati, refused to give any information about the number of displaced people, during a previous interview with Al-Ghad Al-Mashreq TV.
